Varnishing is the application of varnish compositions to the surface of a material that can form a solid transparent coating after fixing. Nowadays varnishing is one of the most popular methods for post-printing processing of self-adhesive products, because it gives the label a more attractive appearance, improves perfomance and the degree of goods protection from product tampering. It also performs other important functions.
Varnishing improves both product appearance and consumer properties. When varnishing, a layer of varnish solution is applied to the surface, which, after drying, creates a strong transparent uniform film. A layer of varnish gives the image a gloss, improves its visual perception and increases contrast and colour saturation. In addition, a strong film protects the label from moisture and contamination, prevents the abrasion of the ink coat, increases strength and durability. Varnishing is a cheaper and more technologically advanced finish than lamination.
Varnished labels differ from unvarnished ones: their appearance is always attractive, original and beautiful. Depending on the area of varnish coating application, we distinguish continuous and selective varnishing. In continuous varnishing the entire surface of the print is covered with varnish. In selective varnishing, due to the use of special forms, varnish covers only certain elements of the print (for example, logo, name, etc.).
